grandparent/ ˈgrænpeərənt/ n.
祖父（母）；外祖父（母）。
grandparent相當于grandfather or grandmother，為單數形式，指一個(gè)人；grandparents相當于grandfather and grandmother，意為“祖父母；外祖父母”，為復數形式，指兩個(gè)人。
例：They are my grandparents.
他們是我的祖父母。

這是一個(gè)合成詞，由“grand+parent”構成。
類(lèi)似此結構的合成詞還有：
grandfather(外)祖父，grandmother (外) 祖母
grandson (外)孫子，granddaughter (外)孫女。
可數名詞的復數形式：
a. 可以直接以數字計算的名詞稱(chēng)為可數名詞，可數名詞有單數和復數兩種形式。
b. 對可數名詞來(lái)說(shuō)，當表示一個(gè)人或事物時(shí)用單數形式；表示兩個(gè)或兩個(gè)以上的人或事物時(shí)則用復數形式。
c. 單數可數名詞變?yōu)閺蛿得~有以下規則：
(1)一般情況下在名詞后面加-s。
pencil→pencils, sister→sisters,
(2)以輔音字母加y結尾的名詞，先將y改為i，再加-es。
family → families
(3)以s, x, ch, sh結尾的名詞后加-es.
watch→watches, box→boxes(盒子）
(4)以f或fe結尾的名詞，先將f或fe改為v，再加-es
knife→knives(小刀)
(5)以o結尾的名詞，有的加-es，有的直接加-s。
tomato→tomatoes (西紅柿) ，hero heros(英雄)
photo→photos （照片）
(6)特殊情況，無(wú)規則可循。
man→men（男人），person people (人)
