1. loud   adj.  大聲的;喧嘩的

e.g. Linda sings in a loud voice. 

琳達唱得很大聲。

2. frightened adj. 驚嚇的;受驚的;害怕的

3. board n. 板;木板

e.g. She climbs onto the diving board. 

她爬上了跳板。

4. awake adj. 醒著(zhù)的     

e.g. I was still awake when my father got home at 11.00 last night.

我父親昨晚11點(diǎn)到家時(shí)我仍然醒著(zhù)。 

5. musician   n. 音樂(lè )家;樂(lè )師

e.g. The musician’s voice is very sweet.

perhaps用于提出建議時(shí),多和should

一起用,語(yǔ)氣客氣、委婉,通常位于句首。

1. Once upon a time, there was a large, lovely garden.

從前,有一個(gè)美麗的大花園。 

once upon a time意思是“從前;很久以前”,這是講故事常用的開(kāi)頭語(yǔ)。

類(lèi)似的表達還有long, long ago, a long time ago等。

2. The giant cried in a loud voice.

這個(gè)巨人大聲地喊。

in a loud voice意思是“大聲地”;

in a low voice意是“低聲地”。

e.g. Linda sings in a loud voice. 

琳達大聲地唱歌。

loud, loudly與aloud

loud  adj.  意為“大聲的;響亮的”。

e.g. I couldn’t hear what he said because the radio was too loud.

副詞loud與loudly同義,都表示“大聲地”,但用法有些區別:

1. loud要放在動(dòng)詞的后面,而loudly既可放在動(dòng)詞之后,也可放在動(dòng)詞之前。

e.g. Don’t talk so loud. Your brother is sleeping. 

Jim played the drum loudly last night. 

= Jim loudly played the drum last night.

2. loudly含有“喧鬧”或“嘈雜”的意味。

e.g. Suddenly someone shouted loudly. It annoyed us. 

aloud也有“大聲地”之意,與loud,loudly有什么區別呢?

1. aloud側重于“出聲”這一含義,強調發(fā)出的聲音能被聽(tīng)見(jiàn)。

e.g. Please read the passage aloud. 

2. aloud與動(dòng)詞cry, laugh, shout, speak等連用時(shí),表示“大聲地”。

e.g. The baby is crying aloud. Maybe he is too hungry.

過(guò)去進(jìn)行時(shí)

一、構成

過(guò)去進(jìn)行時(shí)由“助動(dòng)詞be 的過(guò)去式was / were + v.-ing 形式”構成,兩者缺一不可。主語(yǔ)是第一人稱(chēng)或第三人稱(chēng)單數時(shí)用was,其他的用were。

二、常見(jiàn)用法

★表示過(guò)去某一時(shí)刻正在進(jìn)行或發(fā)生的動(dòng)作。   

如:

I was watching TV at seven yesterday evening.

He was doing his homework at that time yesterday.

★表示過(guò)去某一時(shí)間段內持續發(fā)生的動(dòng)作。如:

They were waiting for you yesterday.

★常用于含有when / while 引導的時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句的復合句中:when 與表示短暫性動(dòng)作的動(dòng)詞連用,主句用過(guò)去進(jìn)行時(shí);而while 與表示延續性動(dòng)作的動(dòng)詞連用,從句用過(guò)去進(jìn)行時(shí)。如:

We were having supper when the phone rang.

The phone rang while she was sleeping.

三、過(guò)去進(jìn)行時(shí)和一般過(guò)去時(shí)的區別:

過(guò)去進(jìn)行時(shí)表示在過(guò)去某一時(shí)刻或某一時(shí)間段內正在發(fā)生的動(dòng)作,強調動(dòng)作正在進(jìn)行;一般過(guò)去時(shí)表示過(guò)去發(fā)生的動(dòng)作,多側重于動(dòng)作已完成。如:

She wrote an e-mail to her friend last night.

She was writing an e-mail to her friend at that time.

Write a short fairy tale in a comic strip style. Make sure your story has the followings:

●beginning, middle and end

●Setting

●fairy tale creatures

●use the past continuous tense

●use the modal verb must
