1. Three percent of all Canadians are First Nations people. 

所有加拿大人中有百分之三是第一民族人。

percent意為“百分之……”。英語(yǔ)中百分數

的表達形式為“基數詞+percent”。如:fifty-six percent (56%)

當“百分數+of+名詞”作主語(yǔ)時(shí),謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的單復數形式要由of后面的名詞來(lái)決定:of后面是復數可數名詞時(shí),謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用復數形式;of后面是不可數名詞或單數可數名詞時(shí),謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用單數形式。 

e.g. Four-fifths of the oil has been used up.

已經(jīng)用完了五分之四的油。

Seventy percent of the students come from the countryside.

百分之七十的學(xué)生來(lái)自農村。

2. The rest are from every part of the world: 

Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, Australia and other European countries.

其余的人來(lái)自世界各地:亞洲、非洲、中美洲、南美洲、澳洲和其他歐洲國家。

當“the rest of +名詞”作主語(yǔ)時(shí),謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的形式由名詞決定:名詞如果是不可數名詞,謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用單數;名詞如果是可數名詞的復數形式,謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用復數。

e.g. The rest of bread was put in the fridge. 

剩余的面包放在冰箱里。

The rest of my friends are waiting for us.

其余的朋友們都在等我們。

當the rest單獨作主語(yǔ)時(shí),如果在概念上暗含著(zhù)上面第一種含義,則謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用單數;如果在概念上暗含著(zhù)上面第二種含義,則謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用復數。

e.g. Some of the students agree with Jim, but the rest agree with Sam.

一些學(xué)生同意吉姆,而其余的則同意山姆。

3. In the 1970s and 1980s, that changed.

在20世紀70年代和80年代,這種情況改變了。

表示“某世紀幾十年代”可在整幾十年份數字后加“s”或“’s”。
