1.Students often gather together in small,closed groups. 

gather意為“集合(人、物),使聚集,召集”,常與together,up連用。

2.If you are not part of a group,it can be difficult for you to be accepted. 

◆本句中的it為形式主語(yǔ),difficult是表語(yǔ);for you to be accepted是不定式復合結構作真正的主語(yǔ),其中的to be accepted為不定式的被動(dòng)形式,表示“被接受”。

◆can be意為“可能是”,是“情態(tài)動(dòng)詞can+be”結構,表示對人或事物可能性的推斷。其否定形式為can’t be,意為“不可能是”,表示否定的推測。

【拓展】must be意為“一定是”,表示肯定的推測。

3.Before he arrived,he knew there would be many difficulties. 

本句中的Before he arrived是時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句,后面的主句中,he是主語(yǔ),there would be many difficulties是賓語(yǔ)從句,主句是一般過(guò)去時(shí),賓語(yǔ)從句用的是過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí)。過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí)表示從過(guò)去某一時(shí)刻來(lái)看將來(lái)要發(fā)生的動(dòng)作或所處的狀態(tài),它多用于主句謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞為過(guò)去時(shí)的賓語(yǔ)從句中。

no way to do sth.意為“沒(méi)有辦法做某事”。

◆simply為副詞,意為“僅僅,只是”,相當于just。
